Fintech was the hottest ticket until recently. Is it still a good place to take a job?

The technology industry introduced financial technology solutions many decades ago, but recently, the division has grown and become a talking point and an investment opportunity. In 2017, EY’s Fintech Adoption Index, announced that one-third of consumers utilize at least two or more fintech services and those consumers are also increasingly aware of fintech as a part of their daily lives. Cryptocurrency (including Bitcoin) and Blockchain technology (including Ethereum) brought fintech into the spotlight. This division of the technology industry started hiring en masse, but regulatory issues plague the companies in this industry and, as inflation is surging, some of the fastest-growing companies in technology are starting to falter.

“Payments services provider SumUp raised cash at a valuation of €8bn — significantly below the €20bn valuation mooted earlier this year.” (Financial Times in June 2022)

Should you accept a job in Fintech?

The fast answer is: It depends on the company.

The actual answer is much more difficult. A job at a fast-growing company can look great on your resume. At the same time, if that company falters and you lose your job, it can look terrible on your resume and also feel terrible for you.

If you are offered an opportunity to work at a start-up or a fast-growing tech firm, one safe way to manage your decision is to have a partner on your side. Working with an IT Staffing company means that the companies looking to hire you have been vetted. IT recruiters know hiring managers first hand and understand whether the company is a good fit for your skills, character, and situation. Meaning: if you want to work with a company, and you know there are risks, an IT recruiter can help place you and can also help you find the next role quickly if it doesn’t pan out.

Tech One IT is an IT Staffing firm that works with IT companies across the nation. Some of our clients are Fortune 100 companies, and some are start-ups. We work with both to help find the right IT talent to join their team, but our focus is always ensuring the best fit so our technology experts can learn and grow and feel secure in their job. If you’d like to have a partner like that on your side, check out our open jobs or send us your resume now: https://techoneit.com/careers/#join
