Phoenix, Arizona, is becoming a tech hub in the American Southwest. According to the state governor’s office, “Arizona’s tech sector is growing at a rate of 40 percent faster than the U.S. overall.” A whopping seven Arizona-based companies made Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 list in 2019. With tech growing so rapidly in cities such as Phoenix, Tempe, and Chandler, the demand for talent has grown increasingly. To keep up with that demand, companies such as Tech One IT have been helping bridge the gap between open roles in tech and job-seekers.
One unique element of Tech One IT’s approach is its apprenticeship program, which is designed for recent graduates of degree and coding boot camp programs. After passing the first round of interviews with the Talent Acquisition team, candidates are entered into the apprenticeship program where they are given online learning modules specific to the client they will be interviewing with to prepare them for their upcoming interviews. Learning module topics range from Java programming to front end frameworks like Angular. As part of the program, each month the company hosts an event called “First Fridays” where they chat with interested students about the apprenticeship program at their offices in Tempe.
“One of our favorite things about students from Trilogy-powered programs is their commitment to learning and their ambition,” says Daniel May, a Project Coordinator at Tech One IT. “They come to us ready to work!”
Trilogy’s Career Services team has been partnering with Tech One IT through engagement and recruitment. Each quarter, TechOne’s representatives attend Demo Day, speaking with students to help them practice for upcoming job interviews. They have also been collaborating with Trilogy by providing feedback on curriculum, student resumes, and student portfolios. In utilizing Trilogy’s talent-sourcing services, Tech One IT has been able to plug graduates of the Trilogy-powered University of Arizona Coding Boot Camp into software engineering, front end engineering, junior web development, and QA engineering roles throughout the state.
