Technical Writer

POSITION SUMMARY
The Technical Writer will drive documentation in a variety of formats to support program development and integration, while working with the IT Communications department to ensure consistent communication across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES
" Write technical materials, such as equipment manuals, appendices, or operating guides
" Maintain a current knowledge of the latest technologies and methodologies in the training and technical writing fields
" Conduct analysis to determine need, project scope and best writing product output to ensure that training fulfills the needs and objectives of the program, and of the organization
" As needed, develop or drive the creation of end-user documentation in a variety of formats (e.g., Publisher, Wiki, HTML, XML, etc.)
" Draw from complex policy or technical material and condense the main points into a readable form for general public distribution
" Collaborate with managers and SMEs to gain knowledge of work areas and topics requiring documentation and training and if needed, develop curriculum requirements and program designs that support organizational needs and objectives
" Evaluate and utilize available media and documents for inclusion into ADE focused products/output
" Work with management to prioritize and estimate work items and timelines on project output
" Maintain all assigned materials/sites/etc.

REQUIREMENTS
" BA/BS Degree in related field or at least 5 years' experience in software technical writing
" Experience authoring help content in the technology industry, and familiarity with software application life cycle, from design to deployment
" Experience creating end-user documentation in a variety of formats to communicate technical ideas to a non-technical audience
" Familiarity with XML and XML editing
" Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint, Visual Studio, WordPress and Team Foundation Server a plus
" Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, and be able to work with various graphic file formats including PSD, AI, JPG and PNG
" Experienced with video creation software such as TechSmith Camtasia
" Experienced with image capture and manipulation software such as Snagit and Adobe Photoshop
" Knowledge of school reporting, government services, and software development lifecycles preferred
" Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
" Demonstrated ability to use discretion and make sound decisions
" Ability to excel in a collaborative and distributed team environment
" Ability to work with a minimal amount of direction while being pro-active in keeping their management informed of project related issues
" Ability to work under pressure
" Ability to respectfully question ideas and share a point of view with others in support of the business requirements and needs
" Ability to effectively communicate with various levels of employees ranging from entry level to senior leadership
" Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and shift priorities quickly
