The Technician will be responsible for the operations of the Client, ORACLE and mainframe computers. He/she will be responsible for performing moderate to complex technical work on the mainframe enterprise server as well as on other platforms such as Oracle and Luminex. he individual in this position will perform preventative and corrective maintenance whenever necessary to ensure around the clock computer availability and security. They must be able to follow crisis management and problem escalation procedures. -Performs day to day backup recovery, performance and tuning, monitoring of batch cycles, technical documentation, monitoring of log files and error handling, problem determination and resolution, and deployment; Communicates with and coordinates the effort of fellow team members to ensure continuation and completion of work in progress from one shift to another -Works in OS/390 mainframe multi platform environment on an assigned and rotating shift, monitoring all peripheral equipment using JES2, MVS, ORACLE and LUMINEX commands -Prints high volume user reports on specialized HP700 laser printer -Checks JCL for condition codes and notifies programmers when expected conditions are not met; log problem entry reports at all times; Applies standard corrective procedures on equipment malfunction, calls for immediate or delayed service when necessary; Checks quality control, reviews and checks flow of work in and out of center -Assists in devising new procedures, forms and diagrams; Maintains record of all work performed on the turnover log; Resolves difficult computer operation problems efficiently and effectively; Maintains system integrity and notifies the supervisor of any irregularities -Collects and reports performance data; Reviews CA-7 to submit or modify JCL when required; Updates all CA-7 schedules and resolves all calendars for mid-year and end of year Analyzes, develops and recommends production procedures; Assembles job stream inputs, organizes for submission to computer and adjusts backlog to handle problem runs, special runs, system failures, etc; Reviews system message logs, identifies incomplete jobs that did not process correctly, and initiates actions required to reprocess aborted or incorrect jobs -Contacts supervisor if an emergency situation arises - Provides technical guidance to the less experienced technicians in their tasks -Assists in maintaining the on-line communication network -Bind reports with the appropriate cover sheets and shrink wrap for mail distribution, -Be available to rotate shifts and be flexible on weekends and holidays, -Assist users calling on the Service Desk during after hours for password resets -Operation of the Luminex to include tape management and troubleshooting -OPS/MVS operational management; Familiarity of the HMC in performing IPL's and POR's of the z/OS LPAR'S Monitoring of all production environments using Traverse; Using RPS for disaster tape recovery needs; Weekend/Holiday operational coverage; View Direct and Document Direct support services to include granting users access for online report viewing and creating new reports for applications; Creating mainframe aliases for new Rumba users, -Granting access for FOCUS users for report viewing; Performing compiles, migrations and database refreshes for applications; Performs other related duties as required.
Skills Required Good knowledge of data entry methods, operations, and computer processing procedures In-depth understanding of job control and multi-platform scheduling Ability to quickly locate and isolate operational deficiencies and process problems that impede production Strong knowledge & experience of the Windows environment and supported software databases, software and security; Knowledge of RDBMS technologies;Knowledge of distributed architectures; Ability to document and troubleshoot problems Ability to think strategically, not just tactically Problem solving capability with ability to work independently; Strong analytical and organizational skills and ability to take on multiple tasks simultaneously Strong knowledge of procedures used in data processing including tracking, accounting and reporting; Strong verbal and written communication skills, including strong technical documentation skills
Skills Preferred
Experience Required At least 2 to 4 years of progressive experience in mainframe, midrange and Client platforms, supporting computer operations in a large corporate environment; Experience with ORACLE and MVS platforms Experience in fundamental system and database administration, tuning, and backup/recovery Computer operations experience in ZOS mainframe environment with JES2, MVS CA-1 and CA-7 skills; Experience with working in a multi-platform environment, with LUMINEX knowledge; Solid background in troubleshooting and using good reporting practices; Solid experience with JCL.
Experience Preferred
Education Required Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other technical discipline, OR 3 additional years of relevant professional IT experience
